“The Land of Israel” – Corrected
This article is a corrected response to a Facebook post about “The Land of Israel”. We’ve not corrected the dates, just the theological errors. Corrections and clarifications are underlined
Abraham chosen by God as the Father of
the Jewish Nation→ many nations (Gen 17:4-5; Rom 4:17-18).
Isaac, Abraham’s son, rules over Israel. → Was one of 2 sons, both of whom would fulfill the “many nations” physical promise (Gen 17:20). He did not “rule over Israel” because Israel didn’t exist until after his son Jacob would be born, and even then, it wasn’t a land because it referred to a people.
Jacob, son of Issac, rules over Israel → which wasn’t a land, he ruled over Israel – a people, meaning, his name was changed to Israel and **he ruled over his own family** – Gen. 37:1 specifically states that he dwelt in the land of Canaan where his father was a stranger, not ruled over the land of Israel.
Moses leads the people out of Egypt and back to Israel → Canaan (Numbers 13:17)
King David unites the 12 tribes into one nation.
King Solomon, son of David, builds the first temple structure in Jerusalem
Israel is divided into two kingdoms, the Kingdom of Israel and the Kingdom of Judah.
The rise of the prophets, God’s messengers. [We’ll let this one slide]
Kingdom of Israel is conquered by Assyrians.
Kingdom Judah is conquered by the Babylonians.
Solomon’s Temple is destroyed by the Babylonians.
Persians conquer the Babylonians and take control of Israel.
The Jews → people of Israel (i.e. born of Jacob – 12 tribes, not just those of Judah) – Ezra 2:2 & 2:70
…return to Israel from exile → as a vassal state to be ruled over by other kingdoms.
The Temple is rebuilt → fulfilling a portion of Daniel’s prophecy which means the final clock to the Messiah was ticking
Reforms made by Ezra and Nehemiah.
Malachi is the end of the prophetic age → Old Testament Prophets – Jesus referred to John as the greatest prophet
The last group of Jews →Israelites
…return from exile.
The Greeks conquer the Persian empire.
The Egyptian and Syrian empire take over Israel.
Hasmoneans recapture Israel, and the Jews are ruled independently.
Romans conquer Israel.
King Herod builds the “third” temple → renovated the 2nd temple, preparing it for the fulfilling of Malachi’s prophecy “And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to His temple, Even the Messenger of the covenant” – it was completely fulfilled when Jesus was Baptized, the Holy Spirit manifested (spiritual fulfillment) and then he went to the temple, made a whip, and drove out the merchandisers in the temple (earthly fulfillment)
Jesus Christ is born in Bethlehem
Romans destroy the temple
After that, the people were captives to the Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, and Crusaders. Through all of these events, the Jewish → and Arab
…people continued to live in Israel. There were more or less of them, depending on the centuries, but there was never a time when the Jews didn’t live in the land. → or Arabs… remember they lived there, too.
…They stayed, they built their communities, they raised their families, practiced their faith and they suffered at the hands of many outside rulers, but they always kept their faith → their faith to reject Messiah, and that there would be a real Messiah besides the criminal, Jesus of Nazareth, because this Jesus had told them that the kingdom would be taken from them and given to another. The funny thing is, most people miss that Israel was a ROMAN kingdom, and didn’t belong to the religious Jesus haters at all – the Israel Jesus was talking about (and the Israel Paul taught about) was the Israel of true faith in God which rests and remains SOLELY in Christ.
… It is what sustains them, even now. → Yes, just as stiff-necked as always – Luke 19:26-28
the UN established the State of Israel, the nation of Jews. → did not directly establish the nation of Israel in 1948. On November 29, 1947, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 181, which **recommended** the partition of Palestine into separate Jewish **and Arab states**, with Jerusalem as an international city. This was rejected by the Arabs (10% of whom, by the way, were Christian at the time – which has dwindled to 2% these days because Christians are being driven out of the land – take heed who you are rooting for)
Don’t buy the Palestinian lies that they are anyone except Jesus is entitled to the land see Matthew 5:5; 2 Corinthians 2:1; Matthew 20:18-20. It simply is not true. Through the **finished** work of Christ Yahweh will also provide has provided a way for his chosen all people to live in the Israel born from above, as He has for thousands of years. Until this is accepted, the unbelieving Jews, unbelieving Arabs, and all manner of worldly thinking people continue to fulfill the words of James 4:1-3
